One of the more challenging things to do when you’re redecorating your bathroom is to find and hire a competent professional who is capable of not only giving you a beautiful bathroom, but also making the space function properly; and all at a reasonable cost to you. Sometimes all you need is a few quick tips or basic guidelines to follow when working with an interior designer.
The bathroom is the place to relieve the stresses of modern life. By redesigning your bathroom, it can transform into a retreat for relaxing and unwinding. As the most used room in the house, the bathroom should be held high as a priority when it comes to design or remodeling. A well defined bathroom plan will help you see your project through. Most importantly, it is important that the bathroom match both the style of your home and your taste. Spirit Interior Design recommends careful attention to space, layout, lighting and maintenance as integral parts of the bathroom design.
The bathroom is usually the smallest room in the house so when planning, it is important to make the most of the limited space while keeping in line with your lifestyle. Some people are fortunate to have vast bathrooms. Others must contend with tiny spaces wedged in as an afterthought. Knowing your space limitations from the beginning gives you a better idea of what’s feasible.
If ideas of remodeling your current bathroom are in mind, the component layout is certainly an important aspect to consider. Your idea of the perfect bathroom layout should match the size of your floor plans. Ample walking space to move about is also another factor to consider. Strategic placement of the shower or bath, sink and toilet can make or break the bathroom design. If a room is poorly laid out to begin with, simply replacing the fixtures with today’s larger models could make the room more cramped. Before you start, Spirit recommends considering how you use the bathroom. You may find that your needs and wants are different and may adjust your goals accordingly.
Ever tried to shave or apply makeup with a single overhead bulb? Recessed lighting is a great addition to bathrooms, but ample light should also be installed over the shower and vanity. We recommend fun pendants for over the vanity. This is especially important when specifying lighting for an entry or powder bath; after all it is one of the first used rooms and should set the pace for the rest of the house. Adding light isn’t enough, though. You should also compare the light fixtures to the paint color. Yellow-tinged light bulbs and blue paint could result in your skin looking very green. Aim for a combination that produces natural light.
Lastly, choose surfaces and fixtures that resist stains, mold, and water marks to make maintenance less frequent and cleaning easier. Tile designs are a great solution for maintenance free designs. They offer trend setting styles with an ease in cleanability.
Following these recommended guidelines and relying on beautiful fixtures to do their job while trusting nature-inspired surroundings will surely envelop you in a restful retreat.
